The Kissimmee Prairie

Shaped by a unique interaction between fire and water, the Kissimmee Prairie is one of Florida’s more endangered ecosystems. Its ecological health depends on frequent disturbance by fire and maintenance of natural hydrology. The purpose of this site is to provide information about the ecology of the Kissimmee Prairie. This will include pages on the Kissimmee River restoration, Lake Okeechobee and the Everglades as I have time to create them. Terms that might be unfamiliar are linked to a glossary. So take a look and read about Florida's beautiful Kissimmee Prairie. Hopefully this site will also serve as a repository for research being done on the prairie. I’m adding more information and photos often so stop back by.

The Kissimmee Prairie is way too special and the amount of money way too small to justify closure of this Jewel of south-central Florida. Please act now!
