In spring the days are lengthening but the rains have not yet come to the prairie. Flowers slowly come out of their winter slumber.
The meadowlarks begin their melodic calling in spring. Once you begin to spend time at the prairie you quickly associate the meadowlark’s beautiful call with the mornings and evenings.
Milkweeds begin to bloom.
Yellow-eyed grass begins to dabble yellow spots in the wetter areas.
The marsh orchids begin to bloom.
The marsh gentians also add purple to the prairie.
